Thanks to a $106,908.00 grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this project brings together the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture (CAHC), the Central Arkansas Library System Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, and Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, to digitize a range of materials documenting African American education during segregation and the path to integration from the three institutions. Materials include manuscripts, oral histories, photographs, and audiovisual recordings.
Digitizing this unique group of archival collections will provide scholars of civil rights, race, education, and the law the opportunity to study evolution of education in Central Arkansas through the lens of religion, the judicial system, and contemporary students and educators.
Stay tuned to this blog as the project participants – ranging from archivists and graduate students to technologists and administrators – share experiences, interesting finds, and other news about this 18-month grant funded project.
