About This Project

The Arkansas Women’s Suffrage Centennial Project (AWSCP), 2017 to 2020, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the right to vote for women in Arkansas by promoting events, encouraging research and education programs related to women’s suffrage, and helping to preserve the history of women’s suffrage within the state.

Project Mission

The Arkansas Women’s Suffrage Centennial Project (AWSCP) seeks to promote a statewide observance of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage that is educational, comprehensive and inclusive; tells the story of the women’s suffrage movement in Arkansas; and stresses the relevance to Arkansans today by promoting local observances and acknowledging the impact women’s suffrage has had on modern Arkansas. The project shall achieve this goal by:

  • Inspiring interdisciplinary examination of women’s suffrage in Arkansas;
  • Promoting women’s suffrage related activities throughout the State;
  • Encouraging civic, historical, educational, economic, and other organizations across the State to organize and participate in activities to expand the understanding and appreciation of the significance of women’s suffrage in Arkansas;
  • Facilitating public distribution of scholarly research, publications, and interpretation of the women’s suffrage movement in Arkansas.
