1950s

In his youth Jim Guy Tucker served in the Boy Scouts, beginning as a Cub Scout and working up to the rank of Eagle Scout by the age of 12. When Little Rock schools closed in 1958 because of the Central High Crisis, Tucker moved to Tampa, Florida to live with his aunt Lillian and attend Hillsborough High School for the fall semester of the 1958-1959 school year. In the spring, Tucker enrolled at Harding Academy in Searcy, Arkansas, and then returned to Little Rock’s Hall High in the fall of 1959.
