He served the citizens of Arkansas as prosecuting attorney, attorney general, United States Congressman, lieutenant governor, and governor, a political legacy that spans 1970-1996. Included in his collection are family papers, research material for his manuscript\u00a0<i>Arkansas Men at War<\/i>, speeches as chairman of the White House Conference on Families, papers relating to his public service career, photographs, audiovisual materials, and memorabilia from his personal life and political career.<\/p>\n<p>Under Tucker&#8217;s leadership as governor, he reformed the criminal justice system, brought state government to the people with his &#8220;Capital for a Day&#8221; program, reformed the education system, and signed bills, through additional taxes, to fund Medicaid for Arkansans.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Arkansas at Little Rock&#8217;s Center for Arkansas History and Culture received a National Historical Publications and Records Commission two-year grant to process Governor Tucker&#8217;s papers. The finished collection contains over 500 linear feet of material.<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t\tVirtual Exhibit\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>This virtual exhibit offers content written by archivists and historian-advisers processing the collection. Readers can explore\u00a0topics about\u00a0Tucker&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/early-life-and-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early life and family background<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/early-life-and-family\/the-lost-year-school-integration-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">education during the Little Rock School Integration Crisis<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/early-life-and-family\/harvard-educated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harvard education<\/a>, service as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/early-life-and-family\/vietnam-war-correspondent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">war correspondent in Vietnam<\/a>, and accomplishments from Tucker&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/political-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">political career<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The site features a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/virtual-exhibit\/media-gallery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media gallery<\/a>\u00a0with photos, documents, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/video-gallery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video clips<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0the collection, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ualrexhibits.org\/tucker\/jon-kennedy-cartoons-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">editorial cartoons<\/a>\u00a0featuring Jim Guy Tucker from the Jon Kennedy Cartoon Collection, 1935-1988 (UALR.MS.0023), also housed at Center for Arkansas History and Culture. These illustrations depict some of Tucker&#8217;s early political battles.
