In the early 20th century, many prominent buildings, such as the nearby Kempner Theatre (1910) and the Little Rock Public Library (1910), surrounded the Arcade. The Cathedral of St. Andrew, built in 1881, still stands today. Nearby businesses included the Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Company, Pfeifer Brothers Department Store, Enterprise Lumber Company, and the Grand Central Hotel.
