Mission

The UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture collects, keeps safe, and makes available Arkansas history that connects people to each other and their shared experiences.

About This Project

"Charlie May Simon: A Rocky Crossing Pushing Across the Stream of Time" is based on the Charlie May Simon Papers (UALR.MS.0006). UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture purchased the original collection from the Charlie May Simon estate in 1977, which included approximately 21 cubic feet of materials. In 1979, the collection split to create a separate John Gould Fletcher Papers. Then in 1998, CAHC added the art belonging to Howard Simon to the collection.

Charlie May Simon wrote in a variety of forms, with the primary genres reflected in the below bibliography: adult fiction, biography, children's fiction, and memoirs. Her article "Retreat to the Land" was her first accepted work, published in 1933.
