Music in the Night

This is a reflective essay that discusses the beauty of Africa and the admirable qualities of Albert Schweitzer, M.D., who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. According to Simon, many have asked the question, "Why would a man of Albert Schweitzer’s genius leave Europe and live in the remote jungles of Africa?" The answer to this question is obvious to Simon as she draws the analogy of Schweitzer to Jesus Christ: after reading the Bible, no one would question Jesus’ mission to serve the poor. So it is with Schweitzer as he, too, must serve the poor.
