The following lesson plans are created for grade levels 7-8 and 9-12. In these lessons, students will use guided activities and primary sources from the Victor F. Snyder Congressional papers to learn about the role of congress people, LGBTQ+ history and politics in Arkansas, and the Central High School 50th Anniversary Desegregation Commemoration.

What Does A Congressperson Do?

Overview:
Members of congress have a variety of responsibilities as civil servants. Vic Snyder was the United States Representative of the second district of Arkansas from 1997-2011. He supported a variety of projects both local and national. The purpose of this lesson is to teach students the different responsibilities of a member of congress by using Vic Snyder as an example.

LGBTQ+ History & Politics

Overview:
The purpose of this lesson is to consider change over time for LGBTQ+ Americans. Using Arkansas Senator Vic Snyder as an example, students will learn about the role of legislators to influence social policies and make strides towards equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

Central High Desegregation Commemoration

Overview:
The purpose of this lesson is to give an overview of the Little Rock Central High Desegregation Crisis and its 50th Anniversary commemoration. Students will use guided notes and group discussions to gain a better understanding of why and how we commemorate important historical events.
