The Blind Experience
Level: Grades K-5
Overview:
This lesson aims to show students what life for the blind and visually impaired can look like. Through a series of photographs and questions, students will have a better understanding of the similar and different ways the visually impaired complete activities. In addition, through a hands-on activity students will be able to experience how a visually impaired person does tasks.
The Great Depression and New Deal
Level: Grades 6-8
Overview:
The worksheet and activity in this plan are designed to give students a better understanding of the Great Depression and the New Deal. The lesson specifically targets the legislation passed that benefited the blind and visually impaired.
Transformations in Minority Groups in Arkansas
Level: Grades 9-12
Overview:
The purpose of this lesson plan is to teach students about the social and cultural transformations on minority communities in Arkansas, specifically the blind and visually impaired. This plan will utilize a combination of primary and secondary sources, as well as analytical and critical thinking questions to help students process the content.
About the Author
Abby Jaquez graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2022 where she majored in history and minored in education. During her undergraduate studies, she was a student worker at the UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture.
